Not all the things that you can see is true. Sometimes, you also need some leap of faith to see through it. :)

Steve Jobs: "How To Live Before You Die"

Last June 2005, at the Commencement Ceremony of Stanford University, one of the finest institutions in the world, Steve Jobs gave an address in front of Stanford’s graduating students. In his address he imparted three dimensions or stories in his life. He categorized it as; connecting the dots, love and loss, and death.

First of his stories is connecting the dots. In here, he narrated the beginning of his life. His biological mother was a young, unwed graduate [Steve never did mention the name of his real mother]. Because she can’t afford to support Steve, she decided to put him up into adoption. His biological mother wanted only the couples who both had finished college to adopt her son. All was set for Steve; to be adopted by a lawyer and his wife. But when Steve popped out there was a last minute cancellation; the lawyer and his wife actually wanted a baby girl. After being rejected by the first couple in the waiting list, there comes another couple who are ready to adopt the baby boy. But in not a very long time, Steve’s biological mother found out that both the man and his wife to adopt Steve never finished college. His biological mother did not sign the adoption papers, but the couple promised that the baby would be able to go to college and Steve’s mother finally agreed.

That was the start of Steve Jobs’ life.

17 years later, Steve did go to college. But he dropped out for the reason that he couldn’t find the meaning of spending his parents’ earnings for their entire life just to attend the course that never interested him. He dropped out of college hoping that everything would be OK.

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Steve dropped in the calligraphy class and there he learned about serif, san serif interfaces, proper spacing, etc. Through this, together with his friend, they invented the Macintosh.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.”
“You have to trust something, your gut, destiny, life, and karma, whatever.”
“Believing the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart. Even when it leads you off to the well worn path and that will make the difference.”

Second of his stories is love and loss. Wuz and Steve started the Apple in Steve’s garage, Steve was 20 then. With this he met David Backard and Bob Noyce. Te start of Apple also started a new love for Steve, he met Laurene, who later became his wife.

When Apple has been established they hired a person [which Steve did not identify] whom they thought could help the company. For the first year of this person was good, but later on there had been a conflict. The Board of Directors sided this person instead of Steve, with this Steve got fired. How can you get fired from a company which you have started? He had been rejected but was still in love. He didn’t know what to do for a few months.
Later on he started NeXt and Pixar. In not a very long time, Apple bought NeXt, then Steve was back to Apple!

“The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again less sure about everything.”
“It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.”
“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith.”
“You’ve got to find what you truly love.”
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life.”

Last of his stories is death. He was diagnosed to have a disease that was incurable. The doctor had a mistake and Steve had a biopsy again. Steve found out that the first diagnosis was wrong and that his disease was curable.

“If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.”
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way to know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”
“You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
Steve Jobs: “Death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:
  • ·         ‘No one wants to die.’
  • ·         ‘Death is the destination we all share.’
  • ·         ‘No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life.’

Human Sexuality.. :D

Last Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Saint Louis University High School Function, the third year students had their talk regarding on human sexuality. There were many facilitators in the talk, Mr. Isagani Bandoc, the Third Year Level Adviser was present together with two guest speakers.

The talk’s topic is very topical nowadays, especially that there are many cases of teenage preagnancies. It is funny why do young girls involve their selves with such. And when they got pregnant already that will be the time that they will think that it is totally wrong. I cannot believe that they do not have enough knowledge about such; it is not that I am saying that they are morons, but it is just that do they still have to try it before they learn the lesson?

It makes me feel sick sometimes, many teenage mothers cannot support their child. Thanks to their parents who are there to catch their daughters in those times. What if their parents are not around? What would they do? They will abort the child? That is crazy. They will have sex but they will not be ready for the consequences they will face.

This is what the talk told to us last Saturday. Being an adolescent is very hard; I know that because I am also in that stage. But being also one, I’ve never thought myself doing such. It is so not right, you get the feeling of guiltiness because your parents are working hard for you to finish your studies then one day they’ll know that you are pregnant!? That is a slap for them! But I guess we all have differences, some adolescents may not control their feelings and their intimate passion for someone that is why they are pushed to do it.

What is worst about being a teenage mothers and father is the criticisms they might get from the people that surround them. Some people would say: “isa siyang disgrasyada” or “nakadisgrasya ng babae iyan”. That is totally rude, but in my point of view I think it is definitely alright. Why? All I can say is whose fault was it in the first place? They did it because they wanted to. It is not the fault of the people around them; it is the teenage mom and dad’s fault.

But even though they’ve done a mistake doesn’t mean that they will be treated as outcasts in this society, they should be directed to the right way and not to lead to the wrong direction. That is why abortion is not the best solution they could come up with. As the famous line says, “You cannot correct a mistake by another mistake”, likewise with such case, you cannot abort the child, all they have to do is wait until the child comes out and take care of it.

So as soon as possible, guide your sons and daughters now. Don’t wait until they commit a mistake that will haunt and bother them forever. Give them sufficient knowledge about early and unwanted pregnancies in teenagers. Move now, or else, you cannot save your sons and daughters from the mistake they might make.

Thanks for viewing! Have a wonderful day! :)

My "Anti-depressant" :)

Whenever I feel sad, there is one thing that makes feel delighted again, it is……. Blueberry cheesecake and strawberry ice cream!

I swear, every time I eat some, my problems vanish rapidly! :) I have no idea what makes me happy when I eat some, but there is one thing I am sure of, when you feel sad, eat sweets. Because I know sweets have something that makes our mood to turn upside. It is like a drug, because when you take in some, you forget your problems. :)

Blueberry cheesecake is my favorite cake of all the flavors that I know because I am very attracted by its color; especially that it has the color that is my favorite! Hahaha :) And what makes it delicious is that it does not contain excessive sweetness like chocolate, it is just normal and not a super sweet one. :) Whenever I walk by a cake shop or bakeshop, what I always look first is blueberry cheesecake. And when I already see one…. My heart jumps! Especially when I can see the flowing icing on top of it, including its berries, OH MY! You know, its colors are really eye-catching, well that is for me. What’s your opinion? It has a color of white as its coating and has an indigo color which is the berries and the flowing icing of it. In a normal blueberry cheesecake, when you already slice on one part of it, you can see the cheese under the white coating and berries. Well, not literally the cheese huh? It’s is the already baked one. :)

I remember last December, when I had my vacation, I requested my dad to eat in a bakeshop so that I will be able to have blueberry cheesecake as my “sort of gift” hahaha. :) Well, I still do eat some, but not all the time. I’ve been so busy in school and I cannot already find time to enjoy, relax, and have quality time for myself. :) But since Christmas is coming I think I’ll be eating some again! I even invited my cousin, Pamela to go out with me, maybe next week to relax and eat some! Of course! :)

Let’s go to my strawberry ice cream, originally, I really hate strawberries before. But when my late best friend took me to a ice cream parlor, I think it was in Fiorgelatto in SM Baguio, I realized that it’s so delicious! Maybe I hated it because of the initiative that I hate the color pink. Well, now I love strawberry! :) I remember when I and my friend used to eat there and eat some. I also remember mixing it with cheese flavor of ice cream and have strawberry syrup as its topping, oh gosh! I miss that! :)

Blueberry cheesecake and strawberry ice cream, I’m coming! Christmas is again nearing and it is again time for us to be happy. Blueberry cheesecake you’re my very dream that I want to eat every single day, strawberry ice cream you are my daydream during the moments when my mind goes off. :) Oh, I cannot wait until I can eat some again! :)

I know you are getting hungry already. Why not eat some also? :) Thanks for reading! :) Have a great day! :)

What Weights More? Being Educationally Competitive? Or Convenience of Majority?

Noynoy Aquino's 10-point agenda regarding the education system in the Philippines tells us many arguments to ponder upon. At the peak of the said agenda is the most controversial topic; the 12-year basic education system. Majority of the parents who belong in the middle and lower classes opposed from the said topic for financial instabilities.

But the 10-point agenda does not only talk about what they so-called as "k-12", its runner-ups include: Universal Preschooling for all, Madaris education as a sub-system withing the education system, Technical and Vocational Education as an alternative stream in senior high school, "Every child a reader" in Grade 1, Science and Math proficiency, Assistance to private schools as essential partners in basic education, Medium of Instruction Rationalized, Quality Textbooks, and lastly, Covenant with the local governments to build more schools.

As a present high school student, the agenda is good, it is commendable. But with its advantage comes a discrepancy about it. Many parents from the middle and lower classes disagree with it because of their financial problems. I, too, believe that this will not be such a very good idea, though its will is for the betterment of Philippine education system. Many families that suffer from poverty can't even afford sending their children to school, so this agenda will be another heavy load for them.

Pnoy should have thought more about this before he came up with such declaration. I'm not saying that he does not consider the financial status of the majority, it's just that adding another two years to primary and secondary education will be such a pain for parents who strive hard for their children to finish studies as soon as possible.

My recommendation is Pnoy should not continue with this agenda. Instead, he could make another agenda that is fit for majority, for the poor and in the middle class people. Pnoy could upgrade the method of teaching, he could upgrade the syllabus of students for them to have high-standard lessons that are comparable with other countries. In such way, we could have students that are competitive enough after they graduated they secondary education.

This ends my latest blog regarding the 10-point agenda of President Noynoy Aquino. I hope this is sufficient enough for you to come up decision, whether you agree or not.

Thanks for your time. Have a nice day! :)
